Some people are concerned about their lack of protein when transitioning to a plant-based diet. That’s one of the easier questions that I get to explain. Protein is in all plant-based foods. The amount of protein may vary from one food to another but protein is there The Journal of Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics did a study in 2013, which was the largest in the history of people who ate a whole food plant-based diet. The findings were that the average vegan ate 80% more protein than people who were on a traditional diet…meat eaters. WOW!
If you are concerned about protein, add these choices to your diet.

Check out this high protein vegan list:
Millet, 1 cup cookes=8 grams
Tempeh, 1/2 package=22 grams
Tofu, 1 cup cooked=20 grams
Pumpkin Seeds, 1/2 cup= 17 grams
Almonds, 1/2 cup= 16 grams
Hemp Seeds, 1/4 raw= 10 grams
Split Peas, 1/2 cup= 16 grams
Garbanzo Beans (chickpeas)
Lentils, 1 cup=18 grams

Did you know the human brain is 85% water and our blood consists of 80% water? This is why water is so important to good health. Water is a natural cleansing agent and it also supports the body’s natural detoxification system. Surprising enough, most Americans don’t drink enough water. We need to drink about 8 glasses of water a day. It has been noted that signs of dehydration could cause: fatigue, joint pain, mood swings and foggy memory in some people. Here is how to calculate how much water you should be drinking each day: divide weight in half equals total ounces per day. A 128-pound person needs to drink 64 ounces or eight 8-ounces of water each day.
Keep in mind that you can also get water from food. There are moisture-rich foods that can help boost your daily water intake.
90% or more water: 80% or more water
tomatoes peaches
celery apples
strawberries oranges
broccoli grapes
grapefruit pineapple

Oh, remember the container you drink out of is important also. It is recommended to use glass, ceramic or stainless steel containers when possible. You should stay clear of styrofoam cups because they contain hazardous chemicals and are environmentally unfriendly. If using plastic containers they should be BPA-free. Enjoy your summer and drink up!!

Nuts are considered as healthy snacks, so enjoy 1/2 cup daily guilt-free.

Lots of evidence suggest that nuts are healthy along with avocados and seeds which have many valuable nutrients. But there’s a unique circumstance with people who use the standard American diet who suddenly are trying to avoid added fats, cheeses, and rich cuts of meat. They still crave rich fatty meals, and if they realize that they can put a ½ cup of cashews or a ½ of avocado in everything then they can “follow the rules” and still love the taste of their food. In order to change your taste buds, you must change your habits, then your health will change forever. Get used to meals that aren’t loaded with unnecessary fats.
