My wife, Diane and I are Independent Contractors in Delaware and Maryland. We are whole food plant-based instructors. We are founders of “Life is Delicious.” Our objective is to open the eyes of as many people as possible by getting them to realize that food plays a vital role in everyone’s life. It is not how long you have been “here” but how long you can “stay here” and how well you feel while you are “here”. Since all of us age, how long are you going to be able to do the things you enjoy?

About seven years ago my wife and I decided to stop eating meat. I had become tired of the meat diet choices. I was skeptical of the food system and distrusted the food industry. Hormones to increase weight, false labeling, antibiotics, and false claims were then and still are part of the everyday food production process.

About twenty years ago, my father-in-law at 52 had a heart attack.  That is when we switched to chicken, fish, and turkey as our dietary meats. I had gained about 36 pounds since high school. My physician told me to lose weight in order to control my blood pressure. I did lose some weight and my pressure went down but over a period of time, it started to creep up again. The pressure was not really high but borderline.   That’s when it was “time to take action”.

Over the past seven years I have learned that willpower is not the key but discpline and a desire to be healthy was. I have seen real results from my decision to become vegan, (meat and dairy free.) I lost that 36 pounds and became physically fit through diet and exercise. I was able to get off the blood pressure medicine. I feel better and can do almost anything I desire to do physically. Our goal is to help as many people as possible to understand that you can use foods to prevent and or reverse the most common forms of diseases with proven power of whole foods.

As I think about it, there has never been a time in my life that I wasn’t concerned about my weight. I have always been “dieting” or being concerned in some way about my weight. Most of the time, it was the concern of others, whether spoken or visual, that usually prompted my concern. Fortunately, I have been blessed with other skills and talents that could divert attention from the shape of my body, often. I have been on most “eating plans” and have attempted to be involved in a range of physical exercises. Usually, I was most concerned, at a given time, about either the eating or the exercise.

I came to understand that a balanced life was a combination of both. As a serious, committed Christian, I often felt that I wasn’t properly representing Christ because I was overweight. Somewhere deep inside of me, I saw me where I am right now. There were markers along the way but the true directional guide came when I began attending “Life Is Delicious”. I began gradually to back away from animal protein and to REALLY be concerned about what went into my body so that it would be the vessel God created it to be. My motives were different so my follow through was different than in the past. No, I am not a petite size or even what is considered “average” but I’m on my way to where I need to be. Each visit to the doctor has seen weight loss, never gain.

I still take far too much medication but blood pressure and cholesterol are managed. With the support of Sister Diane, I am working on diabetes. I refuse for it to remain in my body unchallenged and unconquered! “Life Is Delicious” because of what I, now, choose to eat and because I have “tasted and seen” that the Lord is good and that I am who He settled in heaven for me to be! I can only get better because my “steps are ordered” and I choose to walk in what was “ordered”. Yes!! Life Is Delicious!!!!

Two years ago I went to see the doctor and I was diagnosed with early signs of being hypertensive and the doctor recommended that I either make some drastic lifestyle changes or I have to get on medication. I told her I was going to make the Lifestyle change. So I contacted my good friends Ray and Diane Callaway that run the Outreach ministry called Life is Delicious at Victory Christian Fellowship in New Castle Delaware, they help people interested in making healthy Lifestyle changes.

So I began my journey with getting healthy. I changed my diet and turned to a more plant based diet and low salt.  I must confess that I am amazed at the transformation that has occurred in my life. I have lost 30 lbs and my blood pressure has greatly lowered.  I just had my yearly check up and my doctor says things are looking good. I am also exercising at least five times a week.

I must add this as a Christian, the Bible teaches us that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit and God wants to help us keep His temple clean and healthy. I believe if we will trust God He can help us make those changes that we don’t have the strength or will power to make. I realize that most often it is possible to love that food more than you love a healthy heart. I believe whatever unhealthy habits we have can be broken by the grace of God. Just because we are over 50 does not mean our health should go down the drain. We are indeed what we eat, if we plan to run efficiently like God has designed us we must begin to take the baby steps or maybe drastic steps to good health.

My coaches Ray and Diane Callaway are my role models and I will highly recommend that if you are serious about making that lifestyle change get in touch with them. I am a living testimony that you can do it.

When people come up to me now and say how great I am looking for having lost all that weight, I ask myself when my belly was sticking out of my jacket and I was quarter to the grave,  why didn’t you come and tell me I was looking bad. Point is, most people will not tell you are overweight and that if you continue on the path you are going it will hurt you and eventually kill you. Yes I know we all going to die someday but we don’t have to help ourselves faster to the grave. LIFE is DELICIOUS!

God has been so good to me.  My objective was to get serious about my heath and “Life is Delicious” has helped me to stay focused.  Thank you LID
